Thrilled with the TV5
I found the buying experience through Amazon's authorized retailer to be great. I was a bit nervous about spending such a large amount of money with a retailer I knew nothing about but the transaction was perfect. As for the TV. I don't know much about the tech side but the picture quality is outstanding. I did start out with the analog cable but upgraded to digital 1080p and found the money is well worth it. The TV needs to be fed the high quality signal to perform at its best.

Great picture4
The picture on this TV is absolutely beautiful. I bought an Aquos Blu-Ray player at the same time and the two together are absolutely amazing. This TV does an amazing job with HD signals but it is also impressive in displaying analog signals without looking pixellated. I pump my audio through a home theater system so I can't say much about the speaker.

The only thing that makes me knock a star off is that there is no picture-in-picture capability. Originally, I hadn't thought about it since I don't use PIP much but it would be nice to have.

Great picture, a few features missing4
From a geek perspective:

This TV gives a great picture. It has so far been great for me and outperforms my roommates 1yr old Bravia XBR in a few areas. I was holding off for many months from buying and finally these were reduced to a reasonable price-size ratio. I couldn't give 5 stars because there are several cons- none of which are deal breakers but they broke my heart to be missing or incomplete. Overall, great set and I highly recommend over anything else on the market for quality and looks, although as far as usability features go they could be refined a bit more.

As noted in there are some cons which I will reiterate here as well:

Pro:
- Great contrast ratio.
- Size of the bordering on the set are small.
- No LED lit logo (sony's do that).
- Plenty of inputs.
- Great motion response: games look great. Great response in general actually: over a 25' VGA cable it looks great as a computer monitor.
- Audio input for couple with VGA input.
- RS232 port and decent specifications in the documentation to control the set.
- Detachable speakers

Cons:
- No Picture in Picture: with so much screen, only one input at a time?
- No labeling of inputs: If your input is not digital it won't know what it is.
- PC inputs are limited in resolution: Even though it is not practical to scale up to 1080p for VGA and be visible, it would be nice- especially since the set is tauted as being 'Full 1080'. Although it does function and look nice at lower resolutions, not all of them are supported.
- No DVI.
- Speakers are not as great as they could be, although this set begs for wall mount and speaker removal (they are removable).
- One feature of this thing is the 'Net' which is a really dumb downed slow web utility to view 'widgets' like current weather, stock prices, etc. Usability of this feature is not so great and it is too slow to be purposeful. Would be great if it were always on and customizable (email notifications would be great).

Picture is great. Loved the price!5
Only had this TV for a few days now (got it on 12/5/08). Ordered it with Amazon and it arrived within a week with no issues.

So far I love it - the picture looks so amazing. Upgraded from a 45" Projection LCD I've had for about 5 years now and I feel like I'm watching HDTV for the first time again.

Has more inputs then I'll ever need - can't see me ever using up all 5 HDMI ports. Even tried hooking up my Laptop through the VGA port and it was crystal clear.

Can't really comment on the speakers since I'm using a receiver/surround system. So far I haven't found any issues with it, but I've only had it for 4 days so I'll keep you posted if anything new comes up...

Don't think all you have to do is plug it in because it's a little more complicated than that but not too much so. Picture and sound quality is exceptional especially on HD. Some of the remote functions are a little confusing at first but if all else fails, READ THE INSTRUCTIONS. We love the big screen in our basement rec room.

An amazing large LCD screen that's stellar when it's fed the right signals!!!!5
I purchased the Sharp LC52D64U via a direct promotion with Sharp USA. The deal I was offered was too good to pass up. I have never bought a large format TV in my life and always got by with a Sony CRT 27" in my bedroom running SD TV. I was just fine with that for many years and when I moved into a new apartment with a nice big (and empty) living room and ordered HD cable, I decided to consider purchasing a large HD panel TV.

When I did my research, I was overwhelmed at the number of choices, formats and connections types, such as LCD, plasma, projection, 720i, 720p, 1080i, 1080p, Hdmi, HD channels recievers....argh!?!?!?!

Well after I did enough research, this Sharp LCD has everything that I need for at least the next 5 years. I am running a Tivo Series 3 HD reciever pumping 1080i HD channels over digital cable into one of the 3 available HDMI ports. The image quality is, to say the least, MAGNIFICENT!!!! The deep blacks and rich colors really cut through exceptionally well. I have not yet played an HD DVD or Blu-Ray movie through it, but if the 1080i HD channels look this great, I can only expect the same from watching Spiderman 3 on Bluray at 1080P when it's available this late October.

When I was researching large format panel TV's, my eye kept going to plasmas like Panasonics and the Elite series from Pioneer. Suffice it to say, these brands were very much out of my budget and consdered LCD's instead. So I did some research on the Aqous series and found alot of useful information. I also read many reports of the Sharp Aquos series suffering from a bad phenomenom known as "banding" and a recent review of the LC52D64U on cnet.com indicated that the problem was still present in this new model. This made me nervous about buying the TV, but then I reminded myself that those reviewers have eyes like a hawk and scrutinize every little detail that an average consumer (like me) probably wouldn't even notice until pointed out.

Well I don't know if I can't see it, or if it is not present in my particular unit, but I have NOT experienced any "banding" issues that may appear as color bleed, ghosting effects or ongoing pixilation.

Sharp does offer Aquos models that have a higher refresh rate as much at 120 hertz. This unit, I believe, operates at a 60 hertz refresh rate. The higher 120 refresh rate is supposed to handle fast moving images (such as football player running across a field) and improve the image so as to reduce any bluriness or undesireable pixilation.

Well I do not watch alot of sports, so this is not a deal breaker for me. There were a few times I was watching a movie and saw some pixilation occurring due to fast moving images. But as long as you watch your 52" sharp LCD from a practical viewing distance and loose yourself in the entertainment and not scrutinize every single image that's on the screen, you probably won't notice it when it does occur, if at all.

Overall, I am extremely pleased with the Sharp LC52D64U. Remember that to get the most out of this LCD panel, be prepared to spend some money and feed it a high resolution data feed for both audio and video. Everything I am sending it comes in at full 1080i/1080P, if not upscaled from 720/480. I plan to get the new X-Box 360 elite and it has an HDMI output port and many of the newer games run at 1080P, so I can only imagine that there's more visual pleasure to come my way.

I hope this non-technical review was helpful. Now go out and buy this damn thing and be a happy couch potato!!! :-)

Read this entire review , it will clarify a lot for you with the facts.
Excellent physical design with minimal bezel around screen and also very slim depth and light weight making it as ideal as possible for wall mounting. Excellent anti reflective screen, always clear and vivid in all room lighting. Descent sound and picture factory settings~ easily rectified and improved with adjustment to the settings. Great picture quality overall especially in HD, I enjoy watching the TV with an HD dvd player hdmi connectivity and an HD dvd the most, its also fun connecting my laptop to it with its VGA input. I have written a previous review of this set elsewhere, all in line with the very words in this review only this time regret to have to add that I have noticed the notorious banding issue on the screen. keep in mind that in 80-90% of the scenes you'll watch you wont see the banding, only superb contrast ratio and excellent response time/processing of all content. However, the banding does occur in scenes where camera moves horizontally or diagonally over a large span. for example when watching the planet earth HD DVD and seeing the camera pan or tilt over a long landscape I also saw the horizontal bands like thin thin barely there but there whitish lines across the screen. In spit of all that, i love the TV because again the banding is rare and all other scenes including the speed and rapid movements in a action movie or the color and clarity of the details in a rainforest while watching a documentary this TV does a excellent job. Overall, if you can put up with the banding in those shots where the camera filming a shot scanning a tall building from bottom to top or a wide landscape, This TV is a super cool and modern looking TV. Aquos branded with all the bells and whistles including 1080p and all the connectivity you can ask for. Almost near future proof only lacking 120hz refresh rate which I found not to be necessary at all with this unit. Bottom line, I plan on keeping my TV, every guest that has been over and seen the TV in action love it and want one for themselves.

Excellent set!5
We didn't buy from Vanns, but have been enjoying this set at home for four days now. We haven't experienced the banding that others have complained about -- and I have been very vigilant looking for it. Set-up was fairly straightforward. The stand is gratifyingly solid. Connecting cables for inputs 1 & 2 was a little more difficult than I expected, the angle you hold the connectors is really important, much more so than on other sets -- although once done, everything is nice and tight. One nice surprise so far: the built-in speakers sound much better than I expected.

The picture is gorgeous. Even DVDs from an old non-progressive scan player are excellent (the progressive scan player I ordered arrives today). We watched Monday Night Football in 1080i and newscasts in 1080i, the image quality and detail were amazing. I didn't realize before what nice clothes the anchors wear!

We're very happy so far. We'll see how we feel in a few months.

Sharp Aquos LC52D85U 52-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV
This TV is the best I've ever owned. Setup was painless and really there was very little tweaking of the colors out of the box. The picture is amazing. PS3 looks great, blueray movies even better and this TV has "5" HDMI inputs. The room it's in is very bright and the TV performs great, my previous TV was a HD CRT and would wash out in the day light. Not so with this TV and sports look amazing!!!! I love this TV and I'm very happy with the purchase. I would recommend it to anyone. It is simply the best TV I have ever viewed.

Best TV ever5
I've owned a variety of HD TVs. This Sharp Aquos 52" replaces a 61" DLP system. It is superior in every regard. High Def is a joy with this TV and the 120hz fixes problems that have plagued previous LCDs. I wanted to go with the 65" version but the price differential was difficult to justify. The 52" version in my home theater looks great (even my wife was impressed). I hooked up the cable and BluRay player via HDMI and routed the audio from the TV to my 7 speaker Yamaha system via audio optical link. Results were awesome, though I can't crank up the volume when my wife is in the house (I have been encouraging her to visit her mother more :-)

An Amazing Picture5
My new Sharp Aquos LC52D85U 52-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV arrived in 4 days, and 3 days early from the Video & Audio Center, in perfect shape. The courier helped me unpack, set up and place this monster on its stand. Great service does not get any better than that. I first plugged in the HDMI connection to my RR HD-DVR and then the power plug, sat down & and struggled to find the HDMI connection I had used in the onscreen menu - there were so many inputs it was trial and error(didn't read the manual, no time!). Finally I landed on input 4 which was the live HDMI connection - the channel was set to a full HD channel and had a Fleetwood Mac concert recorded in 2004 playing in full glorious 1080i. I could see every strand of fly away hair and split ends on Stevie Nicks. Frankly I almost soiled myself because I was not expecting THAT degree of picture quality. I am still getting goosebumps from this beauty. This HDTV is just magnificent. The picture is bright, crisp and free of any banding issues. I can say without a doubt this TV will please even the most finicky of consumers. Tech types can tweak away at the hue and saturation controls to their hearts contect, color temperature, active contrast, fine motion are all customizable. The set even makes 480i HBO broadcasts look almost like HD quality.
I have been reading online reviews and customer experiences for over 3 months on all brands of HDTV's prior to pulling the trigger, and I can assure you that you will not be disappointed with this HDTV. I am reluctant to touch the fine tuning picture controls for fear of messing with the already perfect, gorgeous picture right out of the box! One of the reasons I ruled out other brands such as Samsung was the lack of a matte screen to combat reflective glare, as my living room has two banks of floor to ceiling windows & also with cathedral ceilings, facing south. Thus I was concerned with buying just an expensive mirror. It is so sunny in my viewing area an old CRT set was unwatchable during the brightest morning hours - not so this Sharp HDTV. The anti-reflective surface completely eliminates any bothersome reflections. The viewing angle is just about as advertised, I can stand almost 75 degrees to the side and still can view the screen. Just an amazing set. I liked the way the TV will indicate the screen resolution upon changing to a new channel, I find this to be a nice touch. I really liked that the user can alter the range of the OPC and power saving feature so as to limit the degree that the set will automatically reduce brightness in a dark room.

An aggressive price, & free shipping just clinched it for me; I had already decided on the Sharp. This a just a great HDTV, if you are considering this set at all, just go for it.

Great TV at a great price!5
After contemplating the decision to replace my 32" HD Toshiba tube TV for over a year, this Sharp TV went on-sale for Black Friday and I couldn't pass up the bargain.

I had and have done a TON of research on LCD TVs and I would always end up not buying one due to the prevalence of the "next year's model will be even better" mentality that the manufacturers continue to push.

Well, I can tell you that while this TV may not be some top-of-the-line Sony or Pioneer, the picture is quite frankly fantastic.

I truly believe that we have entered the realm that audio equipment exist in within the TV product space, there's plenty of ultra high-end audio gear out there that costs 10 times as much as the consumer stuff, but most people don't care to may such a premium for little additional value.

So, my point is that while this TV doesn't have the fastest refresh time, best contrast ratio, or 120Hz technology that competing TVs have I have yet to be anything but impressed with the performance. I will also say that since the cable and satellite companies compress the heck out of their signals the TV will not be the deciding factor for quality of the picture most of the time.

I did also purchase a Blu-ray player to use with the TV. As of this writing I have not played Blu-ray disc, but I have played many regular DVDs which are up-converted to 1080p with great results.

What I like about this TV is that each input can be tuned independently for all picture settings(I used the THX tuner for my Blu-ray input), and there are a TON of settings. The dynamic backlighting works perfectly and when it adjusts it will show you the adjustment via a series of leaf icons; this tells you how bright the backlight is being set to.
Also, being able to custom name all of the inputs as well as skip the ones that aren't connected is great.

Audio-wise, the sound is fine. I use a 5.1 surround system for all DVD/Blu-ray movies and when we are watching a movie on cable, but for standard programming the sound is fine. It probably can use more bass, but where the heck are you going to fit a cone and magnet in this thing?

Finally, the dimensions of the TV are listed somewhat incorrectly as the set is only maybe 6 inches deep, but the stand is 12 inches in depth. I was also surprised at how light the panel itself is - I've hung plasmas that were only 42" and they weighed a ton... this set is very light from a weight perspective.

Ultimately, I couldn't be happier with this TV and with the $500 or more dollars I saved compared to similar sets I was able to buy a great Blu-ray player and cables plus still have cash left over.

Sharp LC52SB55U - Excellent Value!5
I purchased this TV from B&M Best Buy for $1,199 + 4 yr Black Tie warranty ($99) + Free in-home calibration. I price matched it against their own web site when it was $1,899 and their site had it for $1,299, then later I price matched it again when they added the free in-home calibration, price was reduced $1,000 and the warranty was $50 cheaper. Yeah, I think it was a steal. It was at the low end of my planned budget too so I couldn't have asked for a better deal.

TV operation is great, excellent picture right out of the box with factory settings. Lots of HDMI inputs, dolby digital optical audio output (passthrough) so all my devices are in high definition with digital audio. Xbox 360 (HDMI), DVD player (HDMI), cable box (HDMI), etc.. The contrast ratio isn't that great but you can't hardly notice it... and for the price I didn't care. I wanted a solid performer with a good picture. That's what I got. Discovery Channel, Xbox 360 games, and upconverting DVDs look great. Sports and games play great and I don't see any pixilation or screen ripping.

Sharp Aquos LC52Bd80U5
Very happy with recent purchase of the Sharp Aquos 52 inch HDTV. The quality of the picture is excellent. The biggest problem was getting the satellite hook up for HD, after that hurdle, it has really been enjoyable watching TV. Haven't tried the blu-ray player yet, but the satellite installer was impressed with it. This is our first HDTV so we are still exploring all the features. The shipping from Amazon was very quick. We were a bit nervous ordering the TV online without actually seeing it, but the delivery went well and we are happy with our new TV. We had been looking for almost a year before we made the purchase and we believe we made the right choice.

Great value & product - super sharp and good color rendition5
This is our first LCD HDTV to replace our Sony rear-projection HDTV. We have it now for a month, and we are very happy with it.

Prior to placing the order, I visited a local electronic store comparing Sharp TV with other name brands. This particular model was not available in the showroom at the time. At the first, I was not totally impressed with Sharp's HDTV because it did not have as good black level and contrast comparing to Sony XBR series. After researching on the internet, I learned that this model has many of same features and use the same technologies employed by Sharp last year's Special Edition HDTV that costed around $5K range. I went ahead and placed the order.

The new monitor arrived in good condition. The initial setup was quick and easy, simply follwing its wizard. The setup procedure picked up many analog and clear QAM channels off the cable. I particularly like its feature that allows me to surf both analog and digital channels without switching between the modes like other DVR machine does. I could also individually define which channel to skip. Its remote allows me to program my favorite channels as "quick keys". Very nice feature.

Out of box color is vivid and vibrant, and the black level is deep just like other more expensive Sony XBRs. This TV comes with advanced video tuning capabilities. Besides the typical backlighting, contrast, brightness, sharpness and tint, I could fine-tune white balance, individual color channels. I found this TV only requires minor brightness adjustment to suit my viewing preferences. This TV "shines" when playing back Blu-Ray material such as Pirate of Caribbean with its built-in player.

This TV has plenty of input/output connectors. Specifically, I like the fact it has an optical audio output to my home theater system. BTW, that is a must because the built-in speakers is very wimpy.

For anyone who is thinking about buying a LCD HDTV, you will not regret with this one.

Awesome TV5
I have this model since a month and have found it exceptionally good. The colors are vivid and black is close to perfect. The built-in Blu-Ray player is a boon. Saves space and perfect when it is hung on a wall.
The TV can be swung left or right on the stand. That is neat. With Aquos brand, you can buy with confidence. After all, Sharp is a pioneer in LCD technology.
The only problem i think is that when you insert the Blu Ray disk, it takes quite some time to read it and start the movie.

Brilliant picture for a great price5
I was a bit hesitant to buy this TV as I was waiting for a price drop on the Samsung LN52B750 52-Inch 1080p 240Hz LCD HDTV with Charcoal Grey Touch of Color for several days. Then, at Fry's I saw Sharp's new LC52LE700UN standing next to Samsung's LN52B750 and they both looked quite similar, though Samsung's screen was slightly brighter. The picture quality appeared to be the same. I grabbed the Sharp's remote and changed the picture settings and I was able to increase the backlight up to match Samsung's level while still maintaining amazing contrast ratio and black levels.

By the end of the day I decided to go for the Sharp TV, and I had it for almost a week now. The picture looks really great at any time of the day, when the room is dark or lit (we have a side window facing south). The TV's sound is pretty good and clear, but I decided in advance that I'd like good external speakers to match this great TV.

The TV features also a VGA input (there's also an S-Video input), which is handy for connecting a computer or laptop. I tried connecting my MacBook Pro yesterday and it was able to drive it at 1344x756 (16:9) and 1344x1008 (4:3), but I couldn't get 1920x1080. The picture looks sharp, and it was good enough to watch Hulu on it.

If there's one thing I don't like about it, it's the remote, which is not really stylish to say the least (Samsung's glossy remote looks much better). That's not a deal breaker, since most common function (Power, volume, input selection) can be done by almost any Blu-ray remote anyway (I have Samsung BD-P3600 blu-ray player remote, which looks great).

Overall, this is an excellent TV for the price and the picture quality is comparable to higher-end Samsung TVs which cost few hundred dollars more.

Low price leader4
At least for now this TV seems like the low price leader among new 2009 52" sets. I am very happy with my purchase after 2 weeks of ownership. I am watching it without any custom tweaking at all and blu-ray looks great, and ATSC digital broadcast reception via a RCA ANT1500 Large Multi-Directional Digital Flat Passive Antenna (White) is excellent too.

I bought this sight unseen because the price was right and it seemed to have the important stuff and not the frills, which was just what I wanted. Also previous models of the Aquos line got decent reviews.

This is my first large LCD so I don't have much to compare with. The features seem to be just a somewhat more mature version of last years features which is great if you don't want the dubious advantages (and expense) of things like 240hz mode, LED backlighting or ultra-thin screen.

The built-in sound is decent with hidden, downward pointing speakers and I use it for live TV (ie News and Sports) but for movies I have it connected to an AV surround amp.

Looks great mounted on the wall (nicer than on the stand).

Pros:

- 10-bit screen
- non-glare screen
I have it next to large window and although you can certainly see the light reflected, it is a kind of matte look not a sharp reflection. And the brightness of the screen can overcome whatever reflection there is except in dark scenes.
- 120hz mode
I really don't see a lot of difference so I tend to leave things in the regular movie mode, even for baseball

The delivery via Amazon/CEVA was by a couple of very nice guys who brought it in, unpacked it, put it on the stand (which I later removed) and turned it on, which was exactly what I wanted and expected. No dead pixels. 15 month warranty (12 month plus 3 more for registering online) which I hope I don't have to use.

Excellent TV for the price!5
Just received this TV yesterday and had it up and running in no time at all. I have successfully connected my Cox HD-DVR, Roku (Netflix device), and Pioneer DVD player (1080p upconvert) to the TV...all with new HDMI cables. Visually this TV looks great, I like the piano black finish and the slight champagne gradiant at the bottom...will look even better once we get it up on our wall I think (wife likes the look too).

Upon first powering it up I was greeted with a few simple setup questions all laid out nicely on a very easy to read menu system. Once done I was up and running on our Cox HD-DVR. I went to a basketball game that was on and being broadcast in 1080i. Wow, simply wow. Amazing picture quality...and I hadn't even tweaked the settings yet. After watching a few more channels I switched over to my son's Cars (Pixar movie) DVD to check out the 1080p upconvert and the 120Hz dejudder capabilities. I had never really been able to detect the difference of this in big stores, but wow in the Cars movie at home it was very evident and actually looked really cool. The animation was sooo much smoother, it took a little getting used to but now I'm just amazed at it. Some might not like it, but I think most will.

SD channels actually look suprsingly ok. Was expecting them to look like total crap on this size TV, but they dont.

Later in the evening I started to get down to adjusting the video settings to get the blacks a litter better and the color to be just right (for my eyes anyway). Took about 30-40 mins but I think I have everything set the way I like it, and it looks even better than the initial settings. Blacks are VERY good.

For $1468 shipped, this is an amazing TV. Sure it doesn't have some of the newest bells and whistles...but for some of us who don't have a need for those or the added cost, its nice (ie, ethernet port, USB port, 240Hz, etc).

There are only 2 little downsides I have come across:
1) The sound is only so-so, but that was to be expected...most TVs just aren't spectacular. The sound is very clear, and voices are easy to hear/understand...but just no bass at all. So movies seem a little drab in the sound department. We will be adding a sound bar soon.
2) The viewing angle could be a little better I think. The image gets a little washed as you move to the sides of the TV. I was able to minimize some of it by tweaking the backlight level and contrast/brightness. But still could be better. The stand on this unit swivels though, so we just angle it towards the couch or chairs we will be in and the problem is solved.

Fantastic Deal5
This was my second LCD TV purchase in the last year, so needless to say I have been reading reviews and doing research for nearly a full year now.

As soon as I saw this new 52inch 2009 model for $1450 I had to seal the deal, and I am very glad I did.

There is no banding on my TV ( this was a previous issue with some sharp series, however I cannot say that no TV in this series has banding I only speak for the one I have)

Straight out the box picture is amazing. I am still waiting for Satellite hookup, so for now I have tested my PC input, Xbox, and PS3. The picture on each one blew me away. I have not tweaked the video settings yet, because this is a new TV there are no calibration settings posted yet. Watched Underworld on BlueRay and was astounded at the clarity for the price.

Yes, I have seen better pictures on TVs in the store, however these TVs were nearly 2000$ more than what I paid for this one. And the extra 2000$ does not justify the small incremental increase in picture quality IMO.

As far as sound goes, I would suggest using at least a soundbar if not a full surround sound.

Perfect TV for Value shoppers. This TV is by far the best bang for your buck that I have found in the last year.

Sharp 65" LCD HDTV5
We've had the Sharp 65" LCD HDTV for a month and it is everything Sharp said it would be. The colors are true to life, the HiDef is great and the overall picture quality is wonderful. This was our first major Amazon online purchase and we were cautiously optomistic about buying our new TV online; however, we priced the same TV at local dealers and big box stores and as we saved $1000 over the cheapest local store we decided to buy using Amazon since no matter who we bought from the TV would have to be shipped here so why not try Amazon. Delivery was faster than expected and came off without a problem at all. It was all in all a very smooth, pain free experience; the way things should be. The vendor the TV came from was extremely friendly, cooperative and answered all of my questions. They shipped it to us at no additional charge, and the TV was packaged and crated extremely well.

Great product great price great delivery time. As a matter of fact, I was shocked that the product was sent by FedEX at no additional charge. I received the TV in three days.

One note: FedEX policy does not allow the delivery people to go up steps. Therefore, if you are in a home/appartment with steps better get two strong people to help you (the TV is 150 pounds).

Considering the TV is 65" I believe the picture quality is outstanding especially in Blu Ray.

Sharp Aquos LC65D64U - Amazing HDTV!5
We purchased the Sharp Aquos LC65D64U in early February, and have found the picture and everything else about this HDTV nothing short of amazing. We shopped extensively and looked at many other large screen flat panels, and nothing compares to this for the money. (Actually, I don't know how anyone could want a more beautiful picture at any price.)

We used our existing high-end surround sound speaker system (originally purchased several years ago for use with a Sony 60-inch rear projection TV, which was great in its day), but upgraded our old surround sound receiver to a new Yamaha RXV863 receiver to complement the newer digital technology. We have the Sharp mounted on the wall, and use a Playstation 3 for Blu-ray movies and a Cox HDTV cable box with DVR for HDTV reception, recording, and playback. We also have a Wii player connected, and its images also look great with this HDTV.

This Sharp HDTV was delivered via Amazon's standard truck carrier, and arrived on time in perfect condition.

This is one great HDTV. We highly recommend it!

Only 65" LCD in the market, best one in Aquos LCD line5
This TV is so far everything I expected. The Sharp Aquos line took a big dump years ago when they started to redesign and replace parts with cheaper ones. This new generation Shar Aquos is back to its original standards. I have this unit mounted on the wall of my entertainment center and its the perfect size. This is the only available LCD on the 65" range. About the 120hz hype, I've seen the next generation of this model with the 120hz Spider Man 3 on Blu-ray and there IS ABSOLUTELY NO DIFFERENCE. What the other makes are advertizing as 120hz true motion is different. This is manipulating the image to eliminate all possible blur natural to LCDs when watching cinema (24 frames per second) movies. If you have any doubts, go to a Frys or BestBuy and watch a TV playing a movie with 120hz true motion enabled. It makes movies look fake, as if you are watching a video game or a soap opera. It takes you out of the movie. Your grinch reflex will be overworked scene by scene. Sharp has had 120hz refresh rates for years and they look the same as 40hz (this model). Don't be taken up by the marketing fad on this feature and be suckered to pay an extra $3000. In my opinion, the next generation on this size by Aquos is plain ugly. The frame looks like is covered in leather, with four hidious chrome squares on each corner. This model has a slick piano-like frame finish with very elegant and contemporary lines. Overal, it is a great TV. Make sure you have at least 14 feet of separation between the TV and the seating area.

I recommend this product highly.

65" AQUOS...need I say more5
We have a large room with lots of windows so had to go LCD over plasma. I have not complaints over this tv. Picture is amazing, even wathching Hi Def sports channels. The price goes up and down, but keep watching it and go for the 65 over the 50's any day.

Exceptional TV5
We purchased the Toshiba 52 Regza after researching many brands & models wanting the best set for the money.
In a side by side comparision between the Sony & Sharp Aquos - the Toshiba had a superior picture. I was frankly surprised, initially anticipated the Sony with its much higher price tag would be the best & had intended to purchase the Sharp Aquos but the Toshiba won out hands down in comparision.
Since we have purchased the Toshiba 2 months ago - am completely satisfied with the high quality level of the picture.
The sound could be improved but I use a Bose home theater so the sound eminating from the set is not a major consideration.
Colors are true - black is black & in HD mode its incredible.

My wife and I couldn't be happier with our purchase. This 52LX177 has a commendable picture quality, and makes our older 27" flat screen TV look outdated. We appreciate the 'no reflection' properties of LCD Screen - our well lit aquarium and open blinds in the background do not reflect off the TV - infact you forget they're even there! I have heard of inherent `blurring' with LCDs, but when comparing this with my brother-in-law's 42" Plasma I didn't see any unusual blurring on this set - I believe the minimal blurring I saw on selected programs was in the source rather than the TV. One thing I'm still trying to figure out is the difference between 120hz and 60hz - so far they both seem the same even in fast moving action scenes, although I'm sure there is some inherent advantage in 120hz that I haven't noticed yet. The viewing angle is great.. even if I stand adjacent to the set, every bit of the program is as clear as when seen from front of the TV! Now I can't wait to get a Blue Ray player once those come down to an affordable price, so I can enjoy movies in 1080p! I would recommend this TV to anyone.

There will never be a "perfect" HDTV, but...5
I have searched far and wide for the "perfect" LCD HDTV for at least 2 years, and there isn't one. If you think you've found one then do not go searching for Reviews -- and stay away from the heavily-active Forums that discuss these items because you will become discouraged.

The first problem is in knowing what to look for. The next is in knowing what to avoid. The third is figuring out if any of this matters to you, in your situation, for your specific needs.

This Toshiba 52" is the latest iteration of their top-line products. And if you're into minimalism, it's a stunner. The bezel is amazingly thin compared to other sets. Advantage? It allows you to fit a larger screen into your available space, if the conditions are right.

But, ah -- the catch! Next out will be Toshiba's super-light, super-thin sets that are 2" less thick. Can you wait yet another year? You'll never defat the "What's Next" Catch-22.

It has every major feature you could think of, but I won't go into the merits of these because you'll soon find that beauty and "merit" are in the eye of the beholder. If you want easy setup, this TV has it. HDMI? It has 3 inputs and one output. Nice Black Levels -- definitely, yes. Great color accuracy out-of-the-box -- yes... to my eyes. I'm sure a professional reviewer will find fault with this compared to the Pioneer Kuro excellent line of plasmas.

Like every other set, does it come from the factory over-tweaked? Yes. It will take some research to fine-tune the picture. The darn conrtrast and backlight were set at 100% -- which hurt my eyes terribly in a dark room. Is every LCD perfectly glare-free? -- not this one. The reflections of overhead lights are annoying (like reflections off Scotch "Magic Transparent Tape"), but softer than any Plasma or Glass-fronted screen I've seen. The speakers on this set are nearly invisible and perfectly adequate (much more so than my 37" Sharp).

If you insist on looking into the nitty-gritty, please note that -- at this time -- I've been unable to find any professional Reviews on this set. And it's been out there in limited quantities for a few months. Finding it locally may be difficult. Why? Because the guys in the know are snatching these up as fast as inventory comes into stock. My purchase from Beach Audio was very easy and they communicated very well. But they are, technically, not an authorized Reseller. Their Distributor and Amazon both are, and I've been reassured that Toshiba will not simply walk away from their Warranty.

UltimateAVMag.com is working on a professional Review, right now -- due out shortly. AVSForum has a raging online discussion that has most people very excited about this set -- and it has gone on for months with some great insights and advice (even tweaking tips on how to squeeze out the best picture) -- and no "This kills the deal!" discoveries, as happens on so many other seemingly worthwhile sets. These participants are not pansies. They'll eat your lunch when it comes to discussing esoterica about these sets that you never knew existed.

But beware! These Forum settings can destroy the unprepared or uneducated casual visitor by nitpicking the least-likely of all problems, and blowing it completely out of proportion to most viewers experiences. Sometimes, you'll wonder if these participants ever enjoy anything! Ahhh, the joys of fanaticism! Having said that, it is perhaps especially telling about this model that they have not found too many Achilles' Heels... yet. Not too many people actually own this set (I do). When they hit the big consumer stream, this may all change as newer sets rise to the occasion. You cannot stop progress.

When turned to no picture, my set displays "brighter" dark regions in every corner. Some guys find that unacceptable, but I've only ever seen a true black on a Pioneer plasma. And I've never noticed these regions while watching any video or TV images. If these types of revelations bother you -- DO NOT VISIT AVSFORUM!! Your enjoyment of ANY set may be doomed if you read these discussions too deeply. Or if you have a thin skin.

Biggest observation I can offer...
If this is your first "big" HDTV, please beware -- the bigger you go, the worst your "normal" TV channels will look. Unless you invest in a Video Scaler (several thousands of dollars, although Gefen has one coming for HDTV that runs about $600) or an Audio-Video Receiver that includes an upscale HQV Processor (such as Onkyo's TX-SR875, at slightly over $1,000), you will NEVER improve regular programming by buying a fancier or larger set. Most homeowners not versed in resolution and scaling issues will be frustrated and angry about this. I think it will become the Number One misleading "thing they never mentioned in the store" -- where they probably only ever viewed demo discs of Blu-Ray movie clips.

You buy an HDTV for viewing HDTV content. NOT for improving SD or sub-par video or compressed cable source material. Blu-Ray movies will be so darned perfect, you may cancel your cable and FIOS and satellite movie bundles and decide to only rent Blu-Ray discs through great services such as Netflix. Local or piped-in HD stations will vary in quality. The good ones will knock your socks off -- but poor video sources are MADE WORSE by large and expensive HDTVs, just as they are by the cheap ones. A few of these do offer better video processors, but there is no easy source to look at, telling you which ones they are. That's where the Forums do help -- some of these guys rip their sets apart and tell you which processors they found inside. Remember I mentioned the word "fanaticism"??

This Toshiba is one of the best LCDs available, so far (at least, until the professional reviews come out telling us Early-Adopters that we're wrong). So stay tuned...

This TV is a stunning LCD panel.

I still can't believe how good it looks.

If I had to say the negatives...

Panel is in between a plasma and lcd as far as gloss (I think they call it new matt or somethign)... It does reflect some light not as bad as plasma but it does reflect.

Inputs in back are kind of in a bad place for wall mount

Unit is 6 inches thick --

Positives are many - great blacks, great sports, great games...

Color settings in service mode are great...

Price at under 2500 is a steal -- if you can find one...

Toshiba REGZA Cinema Series 52XF550U 52-inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV 5
I was about to buy this TV on Amazon but was surprised to find this at a better price at the traditional local retailer Video Only. There were very few reviews of this TV on [...] which helped cement my decision. I am by no means a pro at evaluating but this is my third LCD TV purchase of which have included a Sharp 37", Sony 46" and now this Toshiba. I used to also own a Toshiba rear-projection HD TV so am familiar with Toshiba televisions. While I have only had it for a day all in this is a great TV, particularly given how thin the bezel is. This TV is only 47 3/4" wide which is about as wide as my old 46" Sony but now includes 52" of screen real estate. My living room had an area that was 48" so only had 2 choices that I new of including a Mitsubishi and this Toshiba. I was not that impressed with the Mitsubishi display and found it to be over-priced compared to the Toshiba.

When I opened up the box I was immediately amazed at how sleek and modern the screen looked. It looked great just sitting there in my living room. When I turned it on I was shocked by how much cleaner it looked than my old Sony particularly with HD inputs. Blu-ray alone was better than being in a movie theater particularly with Pirates of the Caribbean. Like any high def TV regular TV is disappointing compared to HD signals but it looks fine from my standpoint. The other big selling point on this TV is the 120hz processor which makes sports and action movies have less blur. I will update my review when I have more viewing time with it.

Nearly as good as my Sony5
SD is excellent & better than our $1900 Sony Bravia W4100. HD is nearly as good as Sony. Remote could have been much friendlier and I wish did things in one step and not menus(i.e. press a input and switch from one HDMI input to another instead od input-scroll down HDMI 1 to HDMI 2) sound is not as bad as expected but weak. but you ought to know better these are to be hooked to amps and good 5.1 or 7.1 speakers. I know 120Hz would make this TV great but at the price I bought it is a deal! surface reflection is minor in bright rooms much better than Samsung and Sharp but not as good as Sony. Watt consumption is ~ 240 at normal setting like a old 25-27" CRT TV. start-up much slower than Sony ~ 10 sec

LOW PRICE + EXCELLENT PRODUCT = GREAT VALUE5
I did many hours of reseach before I ordered this TV last week for $1199 from Amazon. I could not be more pleased. The picture is outstanding, and the overall product meets or exceeds any reasonable expectations.

You would be hard pressed to find a 52", 60Hz, entry level LCD by Samsung, Sharp, LG, or Sony for under $1500 and when you do it is because they are reducing the price just before they introduce their new models.

CEVA delivery was great and only three days.

The speakers sound very good for a TV, and at double the price you may find some sets that sound somewhat better. If you want great sound take some of the money you saved on this set and buy a sound/AV system. If you shop smart you can find a system for as little as $300 that will significantly improve your viewing experience or you can spend BIG BUCKS for a weapon of mass destruction.

This model is nearly identical to Toshiba's most premium LCD TV (the 545). The only major feature it lacks is the 120 Hz screen, so at this price this is a steal, especially when you compare it to the other 52" TVs from the other major brands.

This thing has lots of connections, including 4 HDMI (three in the back). Lots of picture settings, great color, gorgeous good blacks. The overall look of the TV is very sleek and stylish.

In this economy you can't beat this deal!

Good for the Price.4
I bought this TV because it was on sale and there are some pluses and minuses. It is a 22 inch flatscreen TV for less than $300, so that is awesome however the picture is really not that great. I have tried changing the color settings many many times and still it doesn't quite look right. The HD channels that I get look pretty good but not the best I have seen.

This is definitely an entry-level flat-screen TV. If I could I would give it 3.5/5 stars.

Very Satisfied5
OK. I've essentially written the same review on Amazon and a few other vendors selling this product. I "still" believe that it's a discontinued product because Toshiba is pushing it's 120 mghz product and has entered into a relationship with Sharp for future sets. This may well be a "good marriage". But from my perspective, I've had this set nearly two months now and have read the reviews and specs on it for several months previous to purchase. The price now (well under $ 2,000) is an EXCELLENT buy..."for now". The set is thin where it counts and HUGE where it counts! People literally stop talking when an HDTV channel is on when viewing this set. It's that good! No banding. No ghosting. No "blurring" with fast action (tennis, golf, hockey, you name it). Regular DVD replay is excellent and you have options to improve the picture quality of those DVDs, if you love movies! Standard TV is good and more than watchable. Just go to Best Buy or any other retail outlet and see any of the "Regza" Toshiba sets (which may soon be discontinued). They truly outshine all the competition ... Sony, Samsung, Sharp, Phillips, et.al. Then you can SEE for yourself. But if it were me, I'd buy this same set all over again. You're going to pay a lot more and get a lot less otherwise, if you pass up this Toshiba line.

REGZA4

I recently purchased the REGZA 52RV530U LCD HDTV. I am very happy with the performance and picture. The screen size is manually adjustable which I really like. My Sharp Aquos adjusts automatically to the input it recieves. Overall the picture quality is excellent and I believe matches the higher price sets. Fast motion is in no way blurry and I can't see any blurring at all.

Beautiful set I would highly recommend.

Very Good, but not perfect4
I bought this to replace one of the Samsung 40"ers I won playing poker (long story). I wanted BIGGER than the 40 and caught this at a good price early xmas eve, so most of my comparison is to the Samsung it replaced. The Good: Bigger is better, much deeper and richer blacks, does not blur with speed ie football game etc, better viewing angle, better anti glare, auto channel scan picks up much more channels and much faster, auto channel scan auto tunes both cable, digital and analog tv signals and locked them in with 1 sweep, deeper and more detailed menu and options. Lots of manual pic size adjustments, 4 hdmi inputs, remote passthru
The Bad (or not so good): Colors are not as bright or sharp. Colors are not as 'REAL' ie skin tone etc. Sound system mediocre even with SRS wow, eq and enhancements (I use a very hi end audio system for movies anyway) remote kinda clutery and not friendly and range not good, deep menu and manual also clutery and somewhat unfriendly, fixed stand does not swival, only 1 cable/antenna input, so it is not possible to hookup both a Cable line and an (hdtv) antenna, 1 side input port, but no front port. Lots of manual size and pic adjustments, but the Samsung had auto settings for most and did it very well.. Overall I am happy and satisfied with my purchase. The picture comparison to my old Samsung is a wash. Blacks better on Toshiba, Colors better on Samsung, but Toshiba doesn't blur. Features about the same, but Toshiba had more manual adj and samsung more automatic. Last, this TV looks good, but was not the best in the store. The store had approx 40 tv's going all same channel and all of the 120hz pics where better, but some of the normal Samsung and Sony pics where somewhat better. All the other cheaper or 'off' brands like LG Vizio etc clearly had a much worse pic. I purchased this because the pic was certainly good to very good and the price was right $1100 + tax.

I have only had tis TV a few days, but it seems pretty nice. Nice bright colorful picture with nice menu choices and the ability to play jpeg photo's via a usb port. sound could maybe be a little better but it's OK.

Toshiba is back in the LCD HDTV race5
After reading, exploring, researching and hands on comparison I do not regret the purchase of this Toshiba LCD TV. I feel it is an outstanding value for a 52 inch lcd class tv. Toshiba's new 5 gig processor combined with the 120Hz smooth's action transitions as well as delivering outstanding darks and vibrant colors. My family room is well lit with sunlight during the day and there is no screen glare. The picture is very clear and sharp as well. The set is extremely impressive with an HD signal. It does almost as well with just a regular digital signal from cable/antena. I also hooked up a older JVC DVD player using just the old RCA cables and was extremely surprised at how good the picture looked. very close to looking as good as HD. I am getting Toshiba's upscaling DVD player, its on order, and will be using it soon. The remote is a breeze to use. Its simple to find which format to use for displaying the signal. Toshiba has done their homework. They should get back some of their market share that they lost to Samsung. I would stack this LCD against any other 50+ inch LCD HDTV out there. I also am using a Philips home theater sound system and the audio is outstanding. The onboard speaker does an good job for every day viewing but won't compair to a home theater system. I would buy this product again, hands down. Look closely at this TV if you are looking at 120Hz LCD HDTV's. I also consitered the 55 inch 670U with the simulated 240Hz. Even if it was a true 240Hz I would have still opted for the 645U 120hz. I believe the 240hz to be over kill combined with the cost difference between the two. I have used Toshiba's XD-E500 Upconverting 1080p Extended Detail DVD that I ordered from Amazon several times now. I am very pleased with this Toshiba product as well. The picture looks outstanding. HD quality. i am so pleased that I didn't get a Blue Ray player but opted for an upconverting unit instead. At $64.00 the Toshiba is at the top of its game. I did purchsase the 2 year replacement policy as some of the reviewers stated that they have had failures with theirs. All in all I am enjoying watching tv and movies at home like I have never before. The Ragza link also enables the use of one remote use for both the LCD tv and the DVD player. Nice. Look at these products if you are researching before buying. Just an awesome home entertainment center paired together. I never thought I would enjoy staying home to watch movies more than going to a theater. My family loves movie night with us or their friends. Again, very pleased with both of these purchases and they both perform beyond my expectations.

An excellent TV, but . . . .4
I agree with all the positive reviews here, but if you need to use closed captioning, you might want to read Freiwil's review of the 46-inch Regza at Toshiba REGZA 46XV645U 46-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV, Black He is correct in saying that you have to use the cable box's closed captioning option because CC is not transmitted through the HDMI cable. I called Toshiba to confirm this, and the rep said this is true. I really hate that because the TV has many CC options for font, size, and so on that are not available via cable TV. Also, others have mentioned a set-up issue (the set-up screen occurring every time you turn on the TV) on sets built before a certain date. The Toshiba rep admitted this is a problem, but she mailed a card to insert in one of the slots on the side to update the firmware and avoid this problem in the future. For the price, this is an excellent buy. The technician who set up our TV said that he thought the Sanyo top-of-the-line had gotten around the problem with CC. I hope Toshiba can do that! However, the higher end Sanyo we priced was $1000 more than the Toshiba.

Fantastic TV5
I did a lot of research prior to purchasing a flat screen HDTV and found this one to stand alone. Consumer Reports compared this TV to a comparable Sony and Samsung (LCD's) and beat them both. I couldn't be more pleased with my purchase.

I would recommend that any LCD or Plasma TV you purchase be professionally tuned for optimal viewing, although out of the box the TV performs exceptionally well.

The biggest advantage I found with an LCD compared to a plasma is that there isn't any glare with an LCD. We have 2 skylights and a french door within 5' of our TV. I actually preferred the Pioneer 50" (5080 model) Plasma's color to the Toshiba LCD but the light effects based on our home layout ruled out any Plasma. The Toshiba, of all the LCD's, had the best black and color resolutions of any LCD out there with no glare from natural lighting.

The extra $300 you'd spend compared to a Samsung is well worth it. The TV is in line with Sony price wise but this model is a hair better in both my consumer reports opinion. My $.02.

Amazing TV5
I spent a lot of time reviewing different big-screen HDTVs. When it came down to buying one, this is the one I wanted because it had all of the right specs. I liked the full 1080p that most plasmas don't have. I also liked that you could see it from a wide viewing angle, unlike the rear projection sets. I also liked that it had 3 HDMI inputs instead of just 2 so that I could plug my satellite, my PS3, and still have an empty HDMI slot for a computer, or HD-DVD player (as opposed to blu-ray, just in case), or whatever else might come along.

We got the TV, and I knew what to expect with HDTV. But I was still amazed at how extraordinary the picture was. I'm really glad we got the full 1080, because the over-the-air broadcasts were sending 1080, and it was breathtaking. I didn't necessarily want to watch the show that was on, but we sat and just stared at the picture! It was phenomenal. So much detail! The picture is amazing, and with the ColorBurst, and the Dynamic Lighting, this TV does a great job at producing a great picture.

My only complaint is that there is only 1 S-Video input. It seemed kind of odd since there are 3 HDMI inputs, and 2 more component HD inputs. I still have a couple of things that produce S-Video, and so I have to route them through my stereo, and use that as the switch. I'm also surprised that the PC-input is a 15-pin Dsub (VGA-type) instead of the newer DVI inputs. But that isn't a show-stopper either, since it's easy enough to get adapters. So make sure you plan out how you want to connect this TV before you get it, especially if you have some older equipment. If everything you have is new, then you'll have absolutely no problems connecting to it. I'm giving this a 5-star rating because I LOVE the picture, and everything works great!

We ordered this TV from an Amazon partner, and it arrived well-packaged and in great condition. We set it up and it's about the best TV picture we've ever seen. Really black blacks, no problems at all with fast action. Sharp, crisp picture with excellent realistic colors. No glare problems from room light, unlike our previous TV. Fits very close to the wall with no issues, opening up a ton of floor space. We're very glad we bought this!

So beautiful that I wept.5
I had spent a year researching and saving for a TV. I had originally decided on the Sharp 65" Special Edition....but then the 2009 models started to show up.

I went around to my local stores and started to check out the latest and greatest of 240hz teli's and checked out the Samsung LED which was the only LED tv I could find in town. I was impressed and decided that the Sharp was no longer enough.

I started to research the big three LED/240hz/55" TV's I could find, the LG, the Samsung, and this the Toshiba. I ended up buying this one because my research pointed to it being the best.

I waited for 6 weeks while Amazon said they didn't have them and eventually bought it from Beach Audio through Amazon. I mounted it up on the wall myself and sat down to see how it looked...

I popped Mission Impossible in the ol' blu-ray player, cranked up the 7.1 surround, and watched....

It was amazing. My wildest dreams were surpassed by light years and I wept in the warm glow that filled my living room. This TV is amazing.

Also, Regza-link seems to work with Bravia-link since everything else I own is Sony. It was really hard choosing Toshiba over my old friend sony...

Toshiba 55SV670U review4
I have had this Toshiba 55SV670U for about one week. My decesion to pick this set over the Samsung 7100, Samsung 950, Sony XBR8 and LGH90 did not come without a carefull examination of the picture quality on all the sets. (I eliminated plasmas as they appeared rather dim to me.)

My desire was high brightness, sharpness and high contrast ratios. The weight and thickness was not that important as I only planned on moving this set once or twice. I will be looking at the picture more often than looking at the side view.

This model Toshiba is now using a similiar front layer as Samsungs and it has improved the contrast ratio signifiantly. The blacks are much darker using this front material. I know it will reflect lights from behind me, but I'll block the window with a shade.... I would rather have that problem 10 % of the time than have the matte finish distort the picture 100 % of the time.

The only way to improve contrast ratio is to locally dim. All the above do locally dim except the Samsung 7100. I questioned how the Samsung 7100 could have a single backlight and be able to make selected areas blacker. I found this Samsung set to have a slight blue hue over the whole picture. However, the Samsung 7100 would have been my second choice.

The Sony XBR8 and the Samsung 950 had the best pictures - just too expensive for the RGB backlighting and Just not worth
$ 1500 to $ 2000 more to me.

The Toshiba 55SV670U gave me the local dimming, an anti-reflective coated contrast window, 120 HZ scan rate and a bright long lasting LED display. I am completelty satisfied with this set.... and with and with its much lower selling price.

Drop in Mr and Mrs Smith in Blu Ray and you will ever regret purchasing this Toshiba

Great TV5
I bought this TV In February of 2008 at the demands of my wife. We had a 60 inch Hitachi which I thought had a pretty good picture. Well It did but it didn't compare to this 52 inch Sharp. We had to put all the shades down in the room to watch the Hitachi, not so with the Sharp.
When we were shopping we considered the Sony Aquos, however when comparing side by side, we thought the Sharp had a sharper picture (no pun intended).

Investing in your entertainment5
Got this at a great price. Free shipping. Ordered on Sun. Got it on Thursday. Best video ever. So sharp and clean, colors are brillant. Gaming on Xbox 360 fast and on the PS3, its the best gaming ever. Going to 1080p, is like going from 800x600 to 1920x1200. Its so much fun to watch tv in HD. And the bluray, is the most incredible imaging. I recommend this tv to anyone who is looking at HD. Easy to set up. One thing it doesn't have, is Picture in Picture. Otherwise, best tv I have seen yet. Sony hasn't even released their 240 hz tv's yet. Toshiba beat them on price and speed.

One feature that I have noticed since owning this hdtv, is the remote control is programmable, it can control my home audio system, dvd player and is very easy to set up.

I really like how there are 4 HDMI ports, and a PC port which I don't use because my computer has a HDMI port so watching facebook on this 55" HDTV is so much more fun.

With the use of my computer as a multimedia center, I can stream video from HULU and Netflix right on the tv.

The SD video card reader is a plus. I love to take photos and then I can view them right on the tv. As sharp as it is, the photos look like you were there on the screen as you view them.

I did notice that watching a movie on my PS3 vs using my older dvd player which is also hooked up HDMI, the PS3 is much sharper and has more detail. I didn't realize how much of a difference the quality of a movie is played back on the player. So I watch all my movies DVD and Blu ray on the PS3. I am looking at getting a dedicated Blu Ray player, I don't want to burn out the drive on my PS3 like I did to my PS2.

Sharp Aquos LC52D43U satisfied with Non HD quality4
My primary goal was to get a large screen TV that is good with regular Non HD channels because most of the channels that my family watches are Non HD being Indian language channels which may take a few years to convert to HD. So I recently purchased an LCD from a big name TV maker 46 inch 1080P and did not have a very good image when viewing Non HD Indian satellite channels. I am not sure if this is just an issue with that particular set or with the model itself. I returned that TV and got a Sharp LC52D43U and am much satisfied with the image of Non HD channels. The packaging, the stand and overall externals also looked quite good. I cannot rate the reliability of the Sharp TV because I have had it for just a week but the picture quality for Non HD is good. There are two dimensions to enjoying a large screen TV. One is the larger image and the other is the better quality / higher resolution picture. If you watch a lot of Non HD content, it is best to ask the sales person to hook up the TV of interest to an antenna or regular cable and test the set out for the picture quality because there are a lot of large screen 1080P TVs out there that have poor picture quality for Non HD channels.

Did all the research. Got a great price on amazon. Bought it about a year ago and am still super happy with my purchase. You won't go wrong with this TV.

Great budget TV5
I have had this tv for about a year now. I'm very happy with it. When I was contemplating which tv I would buy, I had to figure out if I wanted 720p or 1080p, or if I wanted a plasma or LCD. I decided to go with an LCD because I didn't want my tv watching or video game playing to be hindered by the thought of burn in or image retention. Although it really isn't that big of an issue, especially nowadays, I figured that a small drop in picture quality would make up for me not worrying about it.

Anyway, I really didn't have an idea of what TV I wanted, but I wanted it to be cheap and big, and that pretty much ruled out 1080p. Also, the fact that at this size, if you are sitting back 10 feet or so, you won't even be able to notice the difference between 720 and 1080.

Anyway, I ended up seeing a really good deal on this last year, and although I couldn't find much info on the set online, anything I could find was favorable. I bought the tv and I am very happy with my purchase.

The image quality is great (for HD and Blu ray). One thing that is necessary though is to sit far enough away. If you are sitting within 7 feet, the picture can get pixelated, but if you are more than 10 feet away, it looks great. The colors seem to be pretty accurate, and the black levels seem good for an lcd.

Standard definition is pretty good as well, but there is a serious quality difference when you flip between hd and standard channel (which is to be expected). Also it takes maybe 2 seconds to switch between a standard channel to an hd channel. This is because it has to switch to 480i to 720p. Not too big a deal, but it is worth a mention.

One con I can think of is the sound quality. The speakers on the tv don't get that loud, and it can sometimes be hard to hear dialogue on a dvd or blu ray if there is a fan going or if there is any background noise at all. The volume goes from 0 to 60, but it seems as though the sound doesn't increase much at all between 30 and 60. This was only a problem with dvd's and blu rays playing from my ps3 though, because when I was watching digital cable it was always loud enough. I ended up solving this problem by just getting a sony surround sound system though.

Also, this only has 2 hdmi ports. This isn't really too big of an issue because hdmi splitters can be bought for cheap, if you ever even need an extra hdmi port.

Overall I would say that my experience with this tv has been great. There are definitely tv's with better picture, but if you can get this tv for around 1,000 I would say it would be a steal. As long as you give yourself 10-12 feet of viewing distance (which really you should do with any tv this size), this tv looks great. Honestly, unless you are willing to pay hundreds more for a slight increase in picture quality, you should check this out.

I Love this 52" 1080p LCD5
I have owned this TV for about a month and I can honestly say I would highly recommend it. There are plenty of people at avsforum complaining about banding and I must say you would have to struggle to ever see any. I think most these guys are looking for problems instead of enjoying the TV. They do have great calibration settings though. Trust me though I compared Samsung, Sony, and Sharp and for the price hands down the best deal out there! Samsung and Sony have clouding issues and this TV doesn't. By far this TV has an amazing picture with the 120hz and 4ms response. I watch MLB, Golf, and movies in HD and it is amazing. Truly the best HDTV I have seen for sports or movies.

3 HDMI ports, and 2 composite are also 1080p. If not having a computer hookup scares you off know this TV was made to handle one so just buy an DVI-HDMI adapter and enjoy. I Watch DVD's with a normal DVD that up converts and it looks great. SD shows look as good as any LCD I have ever seen. You won't go wrong with this TV buy it and enjoy the best black levels you will see on an LCD and the first I chose over a plasma. AWESOME TV!

Great picture, a few nits4
First and foremost, the picture is wonderful. The color, brightness, viewing angle, etc., are all terrific. That said, there are a couple of things I found annoying and perplexing...

1. When mounted on the wall, the power, inputs, and outputs are all unreachable. If you need to add or change a cable, it means pulling the TV of of the wall. It would have been much better if all of the connections were placed along the side or bottom, so that they were accessible while the unit was on the wall.

2. The mount points for the wall mount are too close together. This leads to the TV feeling wobbly when mounted on the wall. I guess it's secure, but the amount of play doesn't instill much confidence.

All-in-all, I'm very happy with the TV. It's just a shame Sharp didn't put a little more thought into the physical design of the unit.

Sharp LC-52D82U - One the best HDTV's available5
I have had my Sharp LC-52D82U for more than a month now. I have compared it to Samsung 50 Plasma (5054) and Samsung DLP and many other. Except for the black level, Sharp picture hands down is better and more fun to watch. Colors are bright and vivid. Action is great and with 120 Hz refresh rate - the fast motion is great. CNET talks about banding - I have no idea what they are referring to. I have not seen any banding or color non-uniformity. I have no idea why C-net has raised the flag on Sharps larger units??? Compared to the latest LCD's from Samsung with clear glass (71's and 81's), Samsung has more fluid picture but the reflection and cost are the big disadvantages, not to mention whites on Samsung tend to have a brown tone. The remote and adjustments on this are somewhat limited and not intuitive. The access to the inputs is fine unless you intend to mount it ( not the case for me). Over all this is one great TV for the price...I am sure like all hi tech electronics, in a near future, a newer technology will top it...But until then this will be a top of the line unit...

Best LCD yet, but still room to improve...4
Have owned this set for over a month, and overall am very happy with it. I carefully compared this to competitive Sony and Samsung models, and felt it was the best choice available on the market today. But it is by no means perfect...

Strengths:
-picture quality in all modes is excellent. Upconverting of standard def and 480p DVD's is best I've seen. 1080i from satellite box is simply stunning in clarity. 1080p via HDMI from PC is beautiful. Fast motion is handled without smearing. Don't be afraid of sitting close to this beautiful screen; I went with the 52" for an 8 foot viewing distance and it looks great from that distance even with SDTV.

Weaknesses:
-only two HDMI inputs. With Satellite, PC, high-def DVD and game consoles all ideally using HDMI, would like to see at least 3, if not 4 HDMI inputs.
-remote control. It's not really "universal". Doesn't control any audio except Sharp. Doesn't learn. Doesn't include DISH satellite codes. Has backlighting, but a lot of the buttons have the labeling on the adjacent, unlit surface of the remote, so in the dark you can't figure out which button is which.
-on-screen input labels. Sharp has improved this vs. my older 37" set, by allowing user to select from about a dozen different possible names for various inputs, eg. to replace "Input 2" with "DVD" or "Satellite". But inexplicably they didn't include among the choices "PC" or "Game", so two of my four inputs had to be left with generic labels.

And finally, the big issue with this set is the prevalence of very faint permanent vertical and horizontal "bands" in the image. This has been widely reported on other websites, so it is not just my set; it appears to be an instrinsic characteristic of the way the set is designed and/or manufactured. The bands are so faint that in most viewing situations you will not notice them. In fact the other members of my family aren't even aware of the issue, and I'm not about to point it out! But if you use it as a computer monitor where you frequently have a solid color displayed on the screen, you will notice a faint but clearly defined, almost plaid pattern of lighter and darker areas where you should see completely uniform brightness. The pattern doesn't move, suggesting that it is somehow related to the physical construction of the panel, perhaps the way the backlight is distributed, or maybe the way the panel is held in place. In any event, once you know it's there, you begin to notice it occasionally during normal viewing when the screen displays an area of solid color. I don't want to overstate this issue: my older 37" sharp doesn't have any "bands", but it also doesn't have the color richness, the deep blacks, the wide viewing angles, the fast response that make this new set so great. So on balance, I'd say even with this minor defect, I still consider the new set to have much better picture than the old one. But there is room for Sharp to raise the bar even further, hence the 4 stars instead of 5.

Wow, outstanding picture. A small quirks keep this set from being 5 star.4
This TV has an absolutely outstanding picture. The picture will blow you away. It works wonderfully in a brightly lit room. I have it connected to a Dish Network 622 HD DVR and a Samsung Blu-Ray disk player that supports full 1080p. 1080p + BluRay = WOW! The Aquos replaced an older Hitachi 1080i HD rear projection set. The difference is astonishing. The change is easily as dramatic as going from an old CRT computer monitor to a flat panel LCD.

There is no sign of the horizontal banding that everybody is talking about. The set was purchased on the 10th of December. Apparently this is an issue that has been fixed. I even connected it to my PC and displayed various solid colors to see if there was any banding. There is none on my set.
RECENT EDIT:
After having this TV for a while, and being paranoid after hearing the comments regarding the horizontal banding, I have to admit, that I have noticed slight "banding" on very dark scenes, that are black or almost black (Like between commercials). Also, noticable in dark scenes is some vertical banding caused by backlighting irregularities. Let me emphasize that these bands are slight and are simply slight brightness variations. Under "normal" viewing, the picture looks perfect. The banding only appears between commercials when you don't care what you are watching anway. Still a great TV, especially for the price.

The high points are:
1. 1080p - Need I say more?
2. LCD - No burn in, 60,000 hour backlight
3. Good response time on LCD for fast movement (sports)
4. Good over the air HD tuner. Locks in stations that my Dish 622 can't
5. Beautiful, bright picture.
6. Flat (duh)
7. 52" for a "almost reasonable" price. The price was low enough for me to blow a bunch of bucks on one. Comparable price to plasma of lower resolution. The 57 and 60" LCD sets are 2 - 3 times the cost.

If you want to be very picky, I have a few gripes..
1. The backlight is a bit inconsistent. It is only noticable on almost completely black scenes where you can see 4 vertical, not as black, bands. Again, the only time it is noticable is on a almost completely black picture with the backlight intensity cranked all the way to the flame thrower setting.

2. The response to the remote is a little slow. It seems at times that the processor, or whatever is in there, is doing something else for a second or two when using the remote. Sometimes when I press a button, and don't get an immedate reaction, I press the button again, then I get the effect of pressing the button twice. The problem is with the set, not the remote, for I get the same response using a universal remote. This isn't a big problem, though, because I rarely go into the menus.

3. Channel surfing using the built in tuner is slow. I think the set is locking on to the digital signal or something. This slowness results in tedious channel surfing because there is maybe a 2 second delay between channels. I only use the built in Tuner to receive over the air brodcasts that my satellite provider does not give me, so this is not usually a problem.

4. This set only has 2 HDMI inputs, but also has 3 component inputs. I would prefer another HDMI.

5. The built in sound system sounds... a bit flat. It's not as good as my old rear projector with that nice big cabinet and big speakers. But, this set is usually running through a surround system anyway. A nice feature is the digital audio output to connect back to a surround system.

Despite these few shortcomings... I very happy with my purchase.

Vertical Banding is a problem3
I purchased this set thru Amazon after reading the usual reviews. Delivery was quick (before Christmas despite being told it may be until January). Delivery was by truck with two fellows unloading and offering to remove the TV from the box, take all the junk, and deliver the set inside. I was very pleased with the delivery.

The TV was mounted on a wall and worked perfectly for the first two days. Beautiful picture. The colors were accurate, blacks very acceptable, and no hint of "ghosting" with movement. We tried cable TV (our HD is not yet installed), video games and DVD's. Picture with each was very good, especially the DVD.

However, on day three a green vertical stripe, about four inches wide, appeared on the right side of the screen. Also, the color on the right half of the screen is distorted. In addition, a slight purple band sometimes appears to the left of the green one. Fine vertical lines were very evident separating the bands.

I called Sharp and was told "They are aware of a banding problem with this TV", so this problem is not the imagination of other reviewers. I was instructed to take digital photos of the screen and email them so their engineers can determine what to do. I am now awaiting contact from Sharp as they determine what the problem is before dispatching repair service.

I am disappointed that this problem has occured, and it may be isolated problem. Perhaps I was just unlucky to receive a defective unit. I am waiting to see how rapidly Sharp can resolve this. I was told that I am eligible for in-home service.

My new Aquos arrived on February 2, 2007. Delivery was delayed because the TV was out of stock. Sharp dispatch called me twice explaining the replacement delivery delay and the date of delivery (although I had to wait a half hour on hold each time I called them)

The delivery truck driver and I unloaded the box, unpacked the new Aquos, and repacked the old one.

The new set works perfectly (one week) with no hint of banding.
I love this set because I have large windows opposite the wall it is mounted on and there is little or no reflection (unlike the plasmas I looked at)
I am very pleased with the Aquos and would now give it 5 stars *****
My only gripe is the difficulty of attaching cables once the Aquos is mounted on a wall.

This TV is awesome!5
This TV is Beautiful. It has deep colors and superior picture. The only drawback is the standby power indicator can be quite bright. But the movies shown on this TV from my Blu-ray are just phenomenal! The 240Hz make the picture sharp during fast motion. The blacks are deep and true, not grey. Why it's not included in a certain retailers 'Magnolia' section is beyond belief. Bottom line is this TV is georgeous!

Amazing TV5
I have been watching LED LCD TV's for some time, and was patiently waiting for a local retailer to bring this in store so I could see it. Finally, I decided to order it sight unseen. Best decision I made. The picture is unbelievable. It also has a setup that walks you through each element of the calibration. Finally, it autosenses which inputs are active so when you cycle through it lists those first. If you have been waiting for an LED TV that features local dimming, wait no more. This is the TV for you.

Best LCD HDTV on the Market5
I just purchased the 92U after a lengthy comparison with other sets, such as the Sony KDS55A2000, and am very pleased.

I am feeding the 92U from my Verizon FiOS set top box (which presently has 21 HD channels available) and from my Toshiba Upconverting DVD player. The picture from the FiOS HD channels is outstanding. Jump-out-at-you images with rich color and no banding. From the DVD, its still quite good due the upconverting to 1080i. Of course, until I buy a Blue-Ray or HD DVD and associated disks, I won't be able to see true 1080p.

One of the customer reviewers here (Araki on 4/5/07) deplored the sound from the TV speakers. He said that "this may not be an issue if not an audiophile" to which I say that this is not an issue if you ARE an audiophile because no audiophile listens to TV speaker sound. All TV's use small cheap speakers, knowing that audiophiles or home theater movie buffs will have separate reciever/multiple speaker setups. In my case, I'm running the audio through a Sony STR-DG510 receiver into a Cambridge Ensemble 208 system (two speakers + a subwolfer).

The product discription here of the LC52D92U is very sparse and confused. The 92U is an upgrade of the 62U and just came out in Jan 2007, so First Date Available at Amazon couldn't have been April 2005. Also, none of the notable upgrade features are even mentioned!! Its the first LCD HDTV with a 120 HZ refresh rate (other sets are 60 or 75 HZ) so that pixel artifacts seem to have finally been eliminated from fast action scenes. At least I haven't noticed any so far. Also with this model, Sharp has greatly improved on the viewing angle and the black color rendition - you can see this at any store when you view the 92U in comparison to the earlier 62U or any other LCD set. I suggest going to the Sharp site to read a much more comprehensive product description.

All in all, IMO this is the best LCD HDTV on the market at the present time.

I'm Glad I Picked The LC-52D92U Over The Sony KDL-52XBR25
We'll, I finally decided to purchase the Sharp LC-52D92U over the Sony KDL-52XBR2. This decision took me about 4 weeks to make, with multiple trips to local retailers to compare the sets in action, and reading many online reviews.

If you ask store personnel what is the better of the two, most will say the Sony. After watching both sets in action many, many times, it's just not so. The picture quality, sharpness, and black levels on the Sharp are truly amazing. The Sony is a good TV, just not worth over a thousand dollars more! I purchased mine from the internet for $3,200 delivered.

I highly recommend this TV to everyone.

Great TV, Great Price, Great Everything5
Like most of you, I spent a lot of time trying to decide what I wanted. I ruled out rear projection because of the viewing angle, I ruled out plasma because I have a very bright room. So I decided to buy a LCD.
I narrowed my search down to the Samsung 52" and the Sony. When I saw the Samsung in the store I was turned off. For some reason the screen is almost as reflective as a plasma. The Sony was very nice, but $1,000 more than anything else. It wasn't that nice.
When I saw the $3299 price from 6ave Electronics here on Amazon I thought something wasn't right. This is a $4,299 list television. They even tossed in free delivery (it took a week, but it seemed like a month) and they didn't collect sales tax.
I asked Best Buy if they'd price match it. The store manager actually said that products bought on Amazon have the serial number removed so you don't get a warranty and that's how they can sell it for less; Best Buy wanted list price for this TV but was willing to sell it for $3,799.
I'm happy to say my TV has a serial number (not like I didn't think it wouldn't) and I couldn't be happier.
I installed the speaker and the stand, hooked it up and turned it on. At first I thought, WOW, that's bright! But, the factory had it set to "dynamic". I kicked it down to "standard" and the picture was just amazing.
The menu system is very intuitive with help available so you don't get lost.
Standard def. programs look good, but they remind you of what a letdown SD is over HD. We need more content!!
I read some reviews about the audio not being up to par. I have no idea. I'm hooked up through a home theater system with 5.1 surround sound which, IMHO, is the only way to enjoy HD content.
To summarize: the TV is first rate, picture, setup, etc. Delivery was as advertised. The only thing that'll confuse you are all the input options on the back of the TV. I'm only using 3 (Cable, DVD, VCR) but there's room to add anything that comes down the road.
You will not be disappointed with this TV.

One month later. Still enjoying this TV. But, and this isn't a comment on Sharp but all HDTV's, you really start to notice that maybe the broadcast industry isn't quite ready yet. What I mean is, some of the SD programs look OK, some are a bit fuzzy and all of them naturally are in the old format. You can live with it. But, you'll also notice that some of the older programs that are being broadcast on HD channels aren't all that wonderful either. It's essentially the old content, different channel. What shocks you after awhile is that you have a clearer picture many times on a SD CRT than your new expensive HDTV. Why? simple, that higher resolution magnifies the flaws with the old (480) content so you see everything, good and bad, bigger and sometimes it's not very pretty.
Like I said, this isn't a Sharp LCD issue. I have friends that own Toshiba, Sony and Samsung, LCD, plasma, and rear projection and they would all make the same observation. Careful when you're shopping in the store; they show Blu-ray DVD's. Ask the sales person to switch the TV to a SD channel so you can see what I'm talking about.
February, 2009 can't come soon enough but please don't expect the same crystal clear picture that you see on a DVD when you're watching cable.

This just in... Check out the November, 2007 issue of Consumer Reports. In their quick picks for LCD TV's they say if you want a jumbo screen (52 inch and up apparently) buy the Sharp Aquos LC-52D92U. Their top rated LCD is the Samsung LN-T4661F but it's a 46 incher, the 52 inch Samsung comes in below the Sharp.

Eight months later (time flies when you're watching HD!). I still have nothing negative to say about this TV. The picture is as crisp as ever, it's easy to use, no banding, no dead pixels, everything is the way it was the day I bought it. I did upgrade my home theater system. I put in a Yamaha RX-V1800 audio-video receiver along with a terrific 5.1 speaker set from Aperion Audio. I did have an old Pioneer Elite AVR with Bose speakers. The difference is more than noticeable (both video and audio).
And, I did listen to the Sharp's internal speakers for a few weeks while I waited for the new equipment. It wasn't great, but it wasn't bad either.

Should be a Bestseller5
I nearly pulled the trigger on a Samsung 55" model but while chasing the cheapest price, ran across this LG at Best Buy for $1799. Detailed info is hard to find, but it was available for store pickup so I took a chance without seeing it first since I could return it easily. I am glad I did. I cannot imagine a better picture. Observations:

Container is 56-1/2" x 40" x 21" with 2 hand holds on each end. Two adult males handled it without much difficulty. Comes with stand attached. Clip the bands, lift the bottomless box up and put it where you want it. I did not, but plan on 3 people to wall mount it.

You are not going to get home theater audio out of any unit without a subwoofer. It is simple physics. This one sounds pretty good for what it is. You can easily connect it to a home theater system with the Digital Audio Out or RCA ports. It has no separate Subwoofer Out port.

I read an article that expounded on the limitations of the human eye to distinguish contrast at any one light level. Think of waiting for your eyes to adjust to bright or dark conditions. The point made is that contrast specs are BS. Test eqpt might measure another TV as having more range than this one, but I don't think your eyes would detect a difference. This TV has good black levels and maintains them as you crank up the brightness. I still think plasma has the best picture but can't live with its shortcomings. I question the benefit of LCD LED backlight beyond reduced energy consumption and a skinnier unit. Maybe it improves black levels?

If you have digital cable as a primary source, don't blame muddy dark areas on a TV. It is just excessive compression they use to save bandwidth. Sat TV is generally better. OTA broadcast is beautiful. Everything falls short of 1080P DVD. A gamma adjustment can help tweak this problem. This TV has some "expert adjustments" including gamma and black level. I haven't played with them, yet.

One of the imaging engineers I work with gave me a chart that shows the limitations of the human eye with respect to HD. Per the chart, you have to get a lot closer than normal viewing distances to see the difference between 480, 720, or 1080 resolution. This TV is big enough that it might matter to some folks and it looks great up close. I start to see the screen door effect at about a 24" viewing distance. Even with eagle eyes you would not see it at a comfortable viewing distance.

SD content looks very good but you can't make it HD. The interpolation algorithms work well. NTSC (the old analog standard, what you get from a VCR) is 320 x 240. Standard DVD is 480P. This is an area where you could see big differences between products.

TV's are moving toward becoming personal computers. I can see future units having a PDA for a remote and full capabilities. That will be cool. I can't wait. This one doesn't have any of that except a USB port for displaying pictures and playing music. It appears that computer capability is what makes a big difference in price. In my opinion, the most capable units are still pretty lame. This is the bottom of the line model but the only difference is the computer features. This TV has a PC port. Online streaming content is 480P, at best, and extremely compressed. I don't think it looks good on a big screen.

Menus are well designed. This TV makes it easy to optimize to your preferences. I did not like the "Auto" setting for picture brightness. I wanted it brighter. Otherwise, the initial setup wizard did the job.

No S-video. Seems like it is being dropped by the manufacturers.

I would like to have 2 antenna inputs but the only TV I found that has two is Mitsubishi.

Since broadcast frame rates are around 30 fps and interlaced only refreshes half of the lines, I think the effectiveness of 120hz (240hz)refresh rate is pretty subjective and content specific. Same goes for the 24 fps movie source stuff on DVD. This TV has settings for these features. If I find them useful, I will update this review.

I could gush awhile, but I think I will watch the TV instead. When you read other reviews that gush, apply them to this one.

Thanks to all of you who share your opinions and experiences with us. It helps a lot. For TV, even visiting a store will not help much because they do not optimize the picture and the store lighting is usually green. So the brightest one tends to draw your eye.

Great for college
This TV is amazing! My previous college roommate had the 40-inch version of this TV where it was prominently displayed in our living room, and we loved it. Now he's graduated and he took the TV with him (he paid for it). Anyhow, my other roommate and I split the coast of a flat screen box TV and it was a PAIN to move around, and it was poor quality. I got fed up and decided to toss that giant monster and got this beauty. The quality is beyond great. It's light, easy to assemble, and takes up little space.

Buy it.

Perfect performer for the kitchen
This television replaced an old 9-inch model in my kitchen so the upgrade has been a dramatic improvement. Even on its own merits, this TV is a great performer for a smaller space. Ours is connected to a FIOS box, not HD, however. Still, the digital image is crisp and easy to watch. The sound is excellent as well. No complaints whatsoever.

My son has a slightly older Samsung 32-inch used for playing x-box and watching tv. He does have the high-def converter box and the HD pic is awesome. You can see the razor stubble on baseball players' cheeks, blades of grass on the ballfield, etc. We bought the smaller Samsung for the kitchen because we were so impressed with the bigger one in my son's room. The Samsung TV family has been impressive.

I slightly wish I had gotten the white model as it seems more "kitcheny" but the converter box is black plus a black surround makes the "letterboxing" less obvious since the black screen borders merge into the black of the television itself. We generally set the pic to a 4:3 ratio as that seems to match the majority of the non-HD television shows we watch. Oh yes, the remote makes it easy to set the picture ratio. You don't have to enter the menu itself. Just click. A great TV!

Excellent TV...can't beat the price
This TV is very nice...has tons of options and great quality. It was such an incredible deal to find such a great TV at such a low price. I highly recommend it!

Good Enough
I purchased this tv to use with my new xbox 360.I never intended to use it as a television.After reading the 1 star review about what a lousy picture it had i had a lot of concerns.I made the mistake of trying it out in the bed room as a tv before hooking it up to the xbox in the study.I just wanted to see what kind of picture it had.BIG MISTAKE after my wife got a load of that picture no way was she letting it go anywhere.I have a 27in LCD and a 57in CRT both hooked up to Dish network and thy both have a beautifull picture.I hooked this one up to a regular antenna and it has as good or better picture than thy have.True the analoge reception is not that great but for ever analoge channel there is a Digital channel and thy are wonderfull.The person that gave it the 1 star might have just got a bad set or didn't have it hooked up right.The only thing I can say bad is that now I have to sit on the foot bench in the bedroom to play my games instead of a easy chair in the study.

DO NOT LIKE
Pros: It's white, looks nice, fits in with decor in kitchen, menu is decent (something most people don't consider until you get a TV with a really bad one like the TV this one is replacing), auto search channels worked well (did not work well on previous), small form factor, cost

Cons: It's horrible at its primary function - displaying a decent image, both analog and HD are horrible compared to others in this class, imo. Takes forever to turn on for some reason. Cheesy blue light was broken on mine and showed white (this can be disabled),

Compared to other sets in this size, I find the PQ to be awful. Very disappointed, and might even try to sell it.

If you have never had HDTV before, you will probably be impressed by the image (maybe explains the good reviews), but if you are familiar with what HD should look like, I recommend you look at a Sony or maybe a Sharp in this size. Maybe Panasonic, not sure who makes the small ones well. I tried to go the cheap route, instead of pony up for a Sony, but I guess I got burned this time. Was really surprised considering how generally high quality (image quality wise) their LCD monitors are. I also could just have a really crummy sample, who knows.

Anyway, spend the extra $75-$100 and get something else.

I recently purchased this TV for my wife's birthday. The white color fit beautifully in the bedroom. It was very easy to set up and she loves it. I searched various places on the internet, and this was the best price I could find. AWESOME HDTV SAMSUNG 26
I love this TV. Used it for half a yr AWESOME. Use it as my monitor for my desktop. Play all my playstation 3 games on it, watch all my blu ray and dvd on it. Watch all my sports tv with in. Perfect for a small room, great color, great quality, GREAT PRICE. I enjoy every second i use this tv.

Just my Luck ?
I purchased this tv on Jan. 22, 2008 and had no problems at all until about Mar. 11, 2008. Just a few weeks over the time limit to send it back to Amazon and get a replacement. Then the high pitched sound started. Once the tv was on for an hour or two it would develope a high pitched whine coming from the back of the set and continued the whole time the set was on.
I contacted Samsung and they had me send it to NJ for repairs. Well, I got the set back from NJ today (after almost 3 weeks) and it doesn't even look like the same set. When I sent it in for repair I sent it in the original box with all original packing and it arrived today in a different box with different packing. My brand new tv (barely 3 months old) that left here without a mark or scratch on it, was covered in scratches, back and front.Further unpacking revealed a 1" diameter hole in the front left corner that was broken out of the set along with pieces of plasitc that just fell out of the packing. I was also completely missing the oval base plate that I originaly sent.
I contacted Samsung again and they said to return it once again to the repair shop in NJ to see what they had to say about it ? So much for Samsung's warranty and customer service, it's beginning to look like I'm out almost $700.00 for a beat up, broken, missing parts tv. It's really a shame too because before the noise started up and I had to send it in for repairs it was a nice tv and I thoroughly enjoyed watching it.

I did lot of research before buying Sony Bravia and I am really happy with the picture and the sound quality so far. Amazon delivered this product with great shape. No damages during shipping and handling.

FYI - I have not compared the picture quality of Sony Bravia with other popular models like Sharp, Samsung etc. I am happy Sony customer and hence I bought it.

Never again - a SONY!
We purchased a Sony Bravia KDL-52XBR4 from Crutchfield ($3000+) and do not plan to ever buy anything from SONY AGAIN! This TV worked for 3 months and we loved it! That is - until it had a failure - described as solarization by the TV Tech who came to check it out. Of course, it was outside of the 30 day return period, but still under warranty. They ordered a part which the Tech installed on the 2nd visit. He powered it up and the screen had some kind of weird defect show up like something splashed across it - it also had some strange black and grey lines displayed. Now we are awaiting (until mid-July) a new display from Sony (back-ordered - surprise, surprise!).

Very disappointing to have such an expensive TV work for 3 months and fail! And now to have to wait for a display replacement! Most likely we will have enjoyed watching it for about the same time as it has been in the repair shop! NEVER AGAIN - do not buy from Sony!

One more accolade
Like virtually everyone else I mentally suffered over whether or not to buy this particular MODEL and whether I should buy it "on-line." The thought of purchasing something this expensive without a "store-front" that I could run to and secure help seemed terrifying.

After paying a visit to the local brick and mortar stores I found little comfort in their expertise and certainly no comparison in the PURCHASE PRICE. Add to the total the 8.25% sales tax in our community (roughly $200 more) and another $75 deliver fee and Amazon became a no brainer.

When the delivery men arrived I was very concerned that they might not deliver it to our basement. But both men were very polite, carried it down and set it up. They even took the cardboard and wrappings with them. I did give them a small "tip for what I felt was going the extra mile. When they left the driver said "Please call us if not any reason the set has an issue while under warrenty. We will pick it up for exchange or service for no fee." Wow!

I love this set. Having spent only a couple of hours with it I can state it is well worth the money. Perhaps the gadget freaks will find the LCD black not as full as the plasma but it works for me. The sound system was also a very pleasant surprise. I had considered purchasing the add on stereo system but for the moment what comes in the TV is very adequate.

Even if you have an existing DVD player do consider purchasing the Sony DVD NS700H player with HDMI & upscaling (plus hdmi cable) (about $72 from Amazon. Playing my "old" dvd discs are really very acceptable with this technology. Because of this I plan to wait before purchasing a Blueray player/recorder until the price comes down.

I did not purchase the extended warranty. Only time will tell if this is the right purchase but given the fact that I own only ONE warranty (my laptop) I know I am ahead even if I have a problem after a year. My other Sony sets (not LCDs) ran over 10 years with never a problem.

All in all this purchase has been a better return than any of my recent stock purchases :)

Great TV, best viewing angle in class
I just bought this TV and am very happy with my decision. The picture is sharp and contrasty (though component input isn't perfect), sound quality is OK and features are more than plenty for my purpose. I especially like the selection of inputs and the ability to relay audio out to my stereo. But the clincher for me was the viewing angle: It is much better than the Samsung 26A450, which is the main competitor in terms of image quality (face-on the Samsung seems a little better). We have the TV set on a shelf, higher than the seating position, and there is literally no difference in picture for a large range in vertical (and horizontal) viewing angles. There is no discernible color shift or shadow loss, both of which are clearly visible for most of the competition. This suggests to me that this TV is using a high quality S-IPS panel, though it might be hard to believe at this price point.

I use this TV mostly as a computer monitor. It makes sense (if you are not a gamer) because price tag of this item is almost the same as most 26" lcd monitors but TV has nice features: you may see tv channels in small window (PIP) while you work on PC applications, much higher contrast ratio, and quality of picture is really nice, and very good sound.
Plus you have HD channels and plenty input options comparing to PC monitor. Also USB service connector is a good option to update firmware if needed. Unfortunaly, USB port can be used to display pictures from memory stick.
Cons: bulky design, bezel is too wide, it makes it 26.5" wide instead of 24" top as most monitors. Adjustable stand could be nice addition too. Remote is not lightened.

One Day and Happy
I had been researching lcd tv's for quite a while (months). I had narrowed it down to Samsung, Sony, Panasonic, and Sharp. What finally pushed me over into the Sony M-4000 corner is that it has a 178 degree vertical and horizontal viewing range, decent contrast, and the Sony Bravia Engine 2.

The tv is connected to basic cable and I have found the ghosting to be minimal and the hd stations are satisfying to watch.

PC input is excellent...dual monitors is new for me, and it's great for watching online shows, esp. when having pc audio linked to the tv.

The speakers work for me, our tv viewing is limited to when our son is asleep, so no need for thunderous booms, etc.

All in all, it has the features I thought important at a reasonable price. Channel switching is fast; the most often used functions are a button away. I'm content.

All that, but compatibility problems and service disaster
Yes, this TV provided a great picture and a fine set of features, while it worked. I won't dispute or repeat all the praises it has so earned.

Compatibility problems. This TV has a new version of HDCP on its digital (HDMI) inputs. My cable box has a DVI output with an older version of HDCP. The TV's manual says to connect DVI outputs using a DVI to HDMI adapter. When I do that, I get a great picture for a minute or so, then a blank screen with a message from the TV: "the connected device uses an incompatible version of HDCP. Use a component video connection instead." Which is just plain crap. Sony is major player in the cartel that is forcing HDMI and HDCP on us; they have a duty to make their new stuff backward compatible with prior versions of their mess. I had a similar problem with the output from one of my PCs.

Service disaster. After two months my TV started spraying groups of horizontal lines around the screen. It gets worse over an hour or so, to the point where the entire screen is trashed. The warranty provides for in-home service. But Sony has this set up as a cutout operation - they just gave me the phone numbers of three independent repair shops and said to call them and make my own appointment. They said that's all there were near me - three. One was going out of town for two weeks. The second would not do in-home repair, never mind the warranty - they send moving men types to fetch it back to their shop. The third one took a week to come look at it. Ten more days to get the board Sony told them would fix the problem and get it to my house and installed. But this "repair" had no effect on the problem at all. So they went back to the shop and have another talk with Sony. Now another part is on order. Today is June 3. Estimated delivery of the repair part is July 31.

Sony has this set up with a middleman to isolate themselves from pressure and accountability for performance of warranty repairs. But it isn't going to work for them this time. They'll be getting plenty of pressure. Directly from me to their management. And to my State Consumer Protection department. And, since they are making new ones right now in Mexico with the parts that could be used to fix mine instead, I'll need to find one or more Federal agencies. If they are making new ones instead of fixing defective ones they already sold, well, they can just give me one those new ones. Or they should be turned back at the border until Sony behaves in an honest manner.

The part they need to replace now is the entire display panel. And I've been told that they are in short supply because of a huge number of failures. So save yourself the hassle. If you want a TV that will look great for more than a couple of months, or that you can count on decent warranty service for, buy something else. Not this Sony.

Caught on fire
I bought this product online and initially loved it. After a week and a half of being mounted on my wall, the unit started buzzing and then black smoke started coming out of the top right corner of the tv. I turned it off and realized it had temporarily set on fire. I am lucky I caught it because my small children may have not caught it and my house could have caught fire. It took SONY a week to send someone out and he said he could not fix it. SONY took another week to call me back and wanted to send another person out for a second opinion. I told them to go pound salt. After arguing on several occasions they sent me a refurbished television. This of course was not what I bought. They no longer make this model in the factory. They would upgrade me to a newer model for a mere $1000.00 more. The refurbished TV was delivered after another 2 weeks,AMAZON delivered in 3 days originally. TV is on the wall again, after I HAD TO REPAY FOR INSTALLIZATION BECAUSE SONY WOULD NOT PAY TO FIX THEIR MISTAKE. I am happy with the picture again but will never buy another SONY product. Due to outsourcing, I was talking to representitives in another country that spoke broken english at best. I called SONY several times and they would rarely respond back to me in a reasonable fashion. I bought a faulty TV from SONY, it took over 6 weeks to have it repaced with a refurbished TV.

Sony Bravia XBR KDL-52XBR4
No problems at all. Item was ordered and delivered on time. It came FedEx Ground delivery on top of a pallet. The driver dropped it off in my garage. We removed the top of the box (it lifts straight up and off the TV) and performed a visual inspection. No obvious defects observed. Neighbor helped me carry upstairs and mount onto a TV stand. Picture looks great. No dead or damaged pixels. I was nervous about making a purchase of this kind on-line, but now, I am a believer! And I saved about $600.00 in total price and sales tax.

Motionflow™ 120Hz Technology

With Motion Flow
Motionflow 120Hz technology doubles the number of existingframes by calculating in real time and inserting 60 entirely new frames between the original 60 frames. It uses a special Sony-developed algorithm that detects specific objects, as well as the movement of the overall scene and intelligently applies the right amount of enhancement. There's

Unlike some other high frame rate technologies, Motionflow also includes Sony's unique Image Blur Reduction algorithm, which reduces blur from the original source image captured by a camera before applying motion enhancement technology.

Judder is a visual artifact that shows up in video content that has been converted from film-based content. A visible jerking or stuttering effect can sometimes be seen during motion sequences on converted film-based content that may be noticeable on scenes that include panning.

There are many forms of high frame rate technology in the market today, but only Motionflow 120Hz technology uses special Sony algorithms designed to intelligently detect and apply the right amount of enhancement to reduce judder and deliver a smoother, sharper picture with more natural motion of the original film.

24p True Cinema
Movies and many prime time TV programs are shot at 24 frames per second. Unfortunately, TVs operating at 60Hz can only refresh 20 times per second, which means they must drop every fifth frame. Sony's S, V, W, Z, and XBR Series HDTVs, operating at 120Hz, can display an equal number of frames for (5 actually) for every second of 24fps content.

The benefit— You can watch movies in natural, cinematic motion, the way they are seen at the cinema. Every single frame of the movie can now be seen without using additional video processing that converts film-based images to video reproduction. Additionally, 24p True Cinema input capability can be used along with Motionflow™ 120Hz technology for outstanding fluid motion beyond what you would typically see at the cinema. Once you experience 24p video it will be hard to view video without it.

Connectivity
In 2007 Sony included HDMI™ CEC capability in select HDTV and BRAVIA Theatre™ Home Audio products, which led to a one-touch function Sony feature called BRAVIA® Theatre Sync™. This feature allows the access and control multiple tasks and system operations with one button ease. BRAVIA Sync is now being introduced as the name for a new family of control features that not only includes BRAVIA Theatre Sync, but will now include BRAVIA Sync. This feature allows the user to control a CEC-enabled camcorder connected to a BRAVIA HDTV via an HDMI cable by using the HDTV's remote control and an on-screen display that shows camcorder transport functions.

Optimized Theater Mode
Developed in consultation with the Sony Pictures Entertainment movie studio, most 2008 Sony BRAVIA LCD HDTVs feature our optimized Theater Mode. Selecting the THEATER mode on the BRAVIA HDTV remote automatically adjusts a number of key elements that have an important impact on reproducing movies better. Skin tones and lighting are seen as natural without over-enhancing color and contrast. The picture is fine-tuned for a dark viewing environment just like the cinema and optimized for LCD display technology. Even the right amount of film grain is included. All of this helps preserve the mood and detail so you enjoy the cinema
experience that you go to the theater to see, right in the comfort of your home.

Optimized Theater Mode is another great example of Sony HDNA in action. We not only create the exciting movies that you see at the cinema but also enhance the home viewing experience to

S-Force Front Surround
Built around a sophisticated set of Sony algorithms, the S-Force Front Surround enhancement function generates realistic surround sound from the two speakers in the TV. Unlike some other "virtual surround" technologies, S-Force Front Surround sound does not need to be bounced off of side walls or other surfaces to hear three-dimensional sound. TruSurround is a patented SRS technology that solves the problem of playing 5.1 multichannel content over two speakers. Which Size HDTV is Right for My Room?

With standard-definition TVs, the rule used to be that viewers would feel comfortable watching a set from a distance of 3 to 6 times the screen size in inches. With HDTV, the resolution is so much better that you can sit closer to a larger TV without noticing the pixels. So with HDTVs, the rule tends to be you can sit anywhere from 1.5 to 3 times the screen size (in inches) for the best experience.
If you know the size of the room you have already, where you want to sit, and where your new HDTV should go once you get it, you can figure out the size HDTV you should get.

Best 1080p 32" out
Great picture quality and even more important is the usability of this set. If you have cable, just plug it in during the initial setup and the TV will automatically detect any channels in HD! that you can access without needing a cable box, this worked fine with Cablevision and my other TVs have had issues with this...one Samsung and one Panasonic.

Another cool feature if you are using this in the bedroom is to easily turn off the screen, and let the audio pipe through...great if you want to use the tv as a radio of sorts...set the timer and you'll have some dark room entertainment.

Highly recommended, I did tons of research as I'm a videophile and you can't beat this set...doubles very nicely as a large monitor for when you need to get some work done and don't want to stare at your tiny laptop screen.

Great picture, nice interface with TV-Guide. I bought this to fit my kitchen where I intend to use it with a PC with cablecard. I have a Samsung 46 550 series for my TV room. I love the TV Guide, which I had with my old Sharp 32D7U (this one has some issues, failure to download listings or update time) but I was pleasantly surprised by the improved software. (It lists listings download schedule and progress). TV also adds logos to digital channels based on TV Guide display. It has 4 HDMI, 120MHz, USB. I fit my needs because it is the smallest LCD (32) with a 1920 x 1080 resolution for PC (via HDMI). Easy to mount on the wall.
I would fully recommend as a second TV without a cable box and use with a Home theater PC .

Many movies are filmed at 24 frames per second (fps) and prime time TV programs are video taped at 24p. Seizing on an opportunity, some studios are taking a purist approach and encoding high definition video content such as Blu-ray Disc in 24p. One more accolade
Like virtually everyone else I mentally suffered over whether or not to buy this particular MODEL and whether I should buy it "on-line." The thought of purchasing something this expensive without a "store-front" that I could run to and secure help seemed terrifying.

After paying a visit to the local brick and mortar stores I found little comfort in their expertise and certainly no comparison in the PURCHASE PRICE. Add to the total the 8.25% sales tax in our community (roughly $200 more) and another $75 deliver fee and Amazon became a no brainer.

When the delivery men arrived I was very concerned that they might not deliver it to our basement. But both men were very polite, carried it down and set it up. They even took the cardboard and wrappings with them. I did give them a small "tip for what I felt was going the extra mile. When they left the driver said "Please call us if not any reason the set has an issue while under warrenty. We will pick it up for exchange or service for no fee." Wow!

I love this set. Having spent only a couple of hours with it I can state it is well worth the money. Perhaps the gadget freaks will find the LCD black not as full as the plasma but it works for me. The sound system was also a very pleasant surprise. I had considered purchasing the add on stereo system but for the moment what comes in the TV is very adequate.

Even if you have an existing DVD player do consider purchasing the Sony DVD NS700H player with HDMI & upscaling (plus hdmi cable) (about $72 from Amazon. Playing my "old" dvd discs are really very acceptable with this technology. Because of this I plan to wait before purchasing a Blueray player/recorder until the price comes down.

I did not purchase the extended warranty. Only time will tell if this is the right purchase but given the fact that I own only ONE warranty (my laptop) I know I am ahead even if I have a problem after a year. My other Sony sets (not LCDs) ran over 10 years with never a problem.

All in all this purchase has been a better return than any of my recent stock purchases :)

Great Picture, Great Purchase
We researched tv's for about a year before we bought this Sony 52". The price went down alot recently, and now seemed like a good time to buy. We received it Friday (about 11 days sooner than the estimated delivery date!) and so far we are thrilled! We now wish we had not waited so long. The picture is amazing, and we just have basic cable. There are a few HD channels which blow you away, but even the regular stations are great. We didn't know what we were missing. This is an awesome set at a great price and we would highly recommend it to anyone in the market for a flat screen. Go for the big 52, it's worth it. With Amazon's free shipping, it's an even better deal. The delivery person would only plug it in, per my request, but I was able to get it set up in a few minutes. Love my new TV!!!!!!!

TV & Home Theatre System
I've owned this TV for a month, no problems with set up. Excellent picture quailty with standard broadcast TV. I don't have HD signal from my satelite company.

The TV has a sound leveling feature so your not supposed to be blasted out of your chair by commercials. Works okay if you connect the sound cable direct from satelite to TV, but I installed a Sony Home Theatre system, called Sony support for help and they had me run a cable from the satelite to the Home Theatre box, this by passes the sound leveling feature on the TV, so I get blasted by commercials. That is the only complaint I have with the set up.

The DVD Home Theatre System is HDX501W.I bought it at Sams's Club for $475.00. It comes with Wifi rear speakers and an iPod dock. It has plenty of volume, 1000 watts. The rear speakers are "wireless", but not totally wireless. The two rear speakers are connected by wires to a wifi receving device which has to be plugged in to a wall outlet. This box and two rear speakers are set in the back of the room. The wires run from this wifi receiver box to the two rear speaker. The wifi signal is sent from the Home Theatre box near the TV, to the back speaker's receiver without wires. That's the part that Sony calls 'wireless." It works fine, just don't expect to be totally without wires.
